A week of guided walks based on the Isle of Skye, Scotland.

Overview of the Walking Holiday:

The Black Cuillin Ridge Skye is probably the best known of Scotland's islands. Famous for the impressive rugged mountain range of the Black Cuillin and also the contrasting hills of the Red Cuillin. It is well known to rock climbers and walkers alike. In addition to the awe inspiring mountain scenery it boasts a dramatic coastline of towering cliffs and deep sea lochs rich in wild life. A holiday on Skye offers exhilarating high level walking among some of Scotland's most spectacular scenery.

Your holiday includes 7 nights accommodation from Saturday 26th May 2007 to Friday 1st June 2007 inc., at Broadford Youth Hostel which is run by the Scottish Youth Hostel Association. Transportation to/from and during the holiday is not included in the price, nor is food. The guided walking holiday can also be booked without the Youth Hostel accommodation. This will leave you free to arrange your own accommodation and the price of the holiday will be adjusted accordingly.

It is planned to do 4 days of strenuous high level mountain walking with 2 more relaxed days.

All the guided walks will be led by myself, Mark Scott. I am a fully qualified Mountain Leader and a member of The Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team. I have many years mountain walking experience in Scotland, the Lake District and further afield, visit my About Mark page if you would like to know more.

All the guided walks on this holiday are very physically demanding. They will involve walking all day (estimated 7hrs minimum), the actual time will depend upon the capabilities of the group members. The walking will involve both steep ascents and descents, the height gain on each walk will be in the region of 900-1250m (3000-4000ft) with a minimum distance of 8 miles. Mountain terrain is by nature rough and rocky, paths will be used where possible, but these can involve negotiating boulder fields and scree. There may also be the necessity for some easy scambling. Therefore, to fully enjoy this holiday you will need to be physically fit and it is essential that you have previous experience of high level fell walking.

The aim of the holiday is to provide an enjoyable and memorable experience for all among some of Scotland's finest scenery. To achieve this the group numbers will be kept low, maximum ratio 1:8, and the emphasis of the holiday will be pleasureable walking within a relaxed informal atmosphere.

If you wish to ask any questions about the type of walking involved or would like to discuss the suitability of the holiday, please do not hesitate to phone or email me. See my Contact page for more details.
