Glenridding Dodd and Sheffield PikeGlenridding Dodd was a favourite viewing 'station' of the Victorian fell walker. Despite its low altitude it offers perhaps the finest view of Ullswater. From there a path leads to Sheffield Pike ridge with good views of Helvellyn and Catstycam. We then descend to the old lead mine workings of Glenridding. It is reported that 2,000,000 tons of lead ore and 2,000,000 ounces of silver were produced between 1650 and 1962. When the mine closed the workings had a total depth of 3000 feet. Return by way of Lanty's Tarn |
