Helvellyn by Striding Edge and Swirral Edge This guided walk begins with a steady ascent to the start of the narrow ridge called Striding Edge. With steep drops on both sides a good head for heights is necessary on this exhilarating traverse of Striding Edge which leads us onto the summit of Helvellyn. At 950m, Helvellyn is the third highest fell in the Lake District. The descent off Helvellyn is by the equally exciting ridge called Swirral Edge. Basic scrambling skills are required, using hands as well as feet, to negotiate this rough and rocky ridge. Time permitting, we then ascend Catstye Cam before our final descent and return to Glenridding. |
