Dow Crag and Coniston Old Man with the Coniston LaunchA walk of contrasts beginning with a cruise on Coniston water, passing woodland, ancient slate quarries, abandoned copper mines, mountain tarns and towering rocky cliffs
Route description: We take the launch from Water Head Pier to the Torver Jetty.
From there we walk through the wooded footpath to Torver, cross the road and head towards the flooded Banniside Quarries. The route then joins the Walna Scar path and ascends to the shapely summit of Dow Crag. From there we walk to Coniston Old Man then follow the ridge to Swirl How. Descent to Coniston is by way of Levers Water and the Coniston Coppermines.
