Guided Walk Leader Mark Scott

Hi, I'm Mark Scott. I live in Marton, a small village south of Ulverston, 15 miles from Coniston. I was born in the area and have had no desire to live elsewhere. Why move, Cumbria is a beautiful county?

Being so fortunate to live close to the Lake District, I have walked and climbed there since childhood, and also extensively in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. I have also walked and climbed in Wales, Ireland, the European Alps, Norway, North and South America and China.

The picture here shows me, on the right, having a well deserved rest with a group I was taking up Scafell Pike. The teddy bear in the rucksack is not mine, unfortunately.

Believing that we should 'put something back' I have been a member of the Lake District National Park Voluntary Ranger Service for 24 years and a member of Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team for 23 years. I am also a life member of the Friends of the Lake District and the John Muir Trust, conservation charities committed to preserving, enhancing and repairing the fells and other areas which we are privileged to walk in and enjoy.

I have an interest in geology, flora, fauna, archaeology, local history and other intangible qualities which make every visit to the fells an adventure.

We are allowed free access to the fells of the Lake District so I have decided to donate £1.00 from each person on the Classic Guided Walks, to Lake District conservation charities and Lake District Mountain Rescue.

Enjoy walking.

Mark Scott
